SAA update on American Diggers/Diggers
archaeologistforhire:
Society for American Archaeology
Dear Colleagues, Late last week the SAA Board was informed that there are two TV series planned that promote and glorify the looting and destruction of archaeological sites. They are American Diggers and Diggers. The first is scheduled for Spike TV and the other for National Geographic TV. As past SAA President Bob Kelly wrote in a recent...

Mac McClelland’s account of going to work in an online-order shipping warehouse. Must read.
I read this, and other similar articles beforehand. It’s why I try very hard to stay away from online shipping, with the exception of ebay. It’s impossible to know for sure, but with ebay, you have a much higher chance of dealing with individuals or even small businesses rather...

In the not-so-distant future of Virginia, the Personhood Act has outlawed abortion and chemical birth control. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist, though.
An incredibly well-written, powerful story. Please read this.
Google Ancient Places digs into the past
archaeologicalnews:
An exciting new project exploring how people in the past viewed the geography of the ancient world, has been backed by $50,000 grant from Google, Inc. via its Digital Humanities Awards Program.
Google Ancient Places (GAP) is developing a Web application which allows users to choose a classical text or book (from between 500BC – 500AD) and then search for references to...
We already don’t have enough shifts to go around, and the manager just hired a new girl.
She really wants me out of there, doesn’t she. She also is giving me one shift a week, which is not enough to support myself at all.

I did the Cinnamon Challenge.
I took videos of it too, but my Dad’s computer wouldn’t boot up. Still trying to fix that, since that’s the only machine in the house that has a built in card-reader, which is the only way to get data off my camera.
But I did it! I coughed a bit and wheezed, but I didn’t vomit or spit it all out!
My throat still hurts though. Hopefully, the videos will be up tonight. If...

I just had this conversation today with one of the few Jewish people I know here in Texas. I don’t plan on getting married or having children and she couldn’t seem to wrap her mind around that.
I get constantly lectured about Israel, babies, and marriage. I’m 24 and it’s pretty much unthinkable, especially in the Orthodox...

I mentioned on Friday that I’d written some things that had been criticized and I was going to write a post about it all later. This is that post!
I’ve been thinking a lot about intersectionality, particularly as it relates to feminism and race issues. I am a straight white cis lady blogger. I’ve done some good stuff on STFU, Conservatives, but I’ve made a lot of mistakes...

Also.
I also loved how A- tried to use the Torah as backup for his 1950s era sexual mores.
The Torah is a Late Bronze Age/Super-Early Iron Age book. OF COURSE it has gender stereotypes! It’s from the Bronze Age! What’s YOUR excuse?
Though, funnily enough, despite said gender roles, the Torah has a far less restrictive view of the role of women in society than does A-. He was totally going...

So I have to drive my 12 year old brother down to Baltimore, MD this weekend to attend his best friend’s bar mitzvah. Ok, no problem, so long as I have a GPS so I don’t end up in the backwoods of Pennsylvania instead of the suburbs of Maryland. So I call up our neighbor and old family friend, A-, and I ask him, in between the chatting, if I can borrow his GPS. Sure, no problem, he...

This summer, Tel Aviv University’s Sonia and Marco Nadler Institute of Archaeology is adding another excavation to their already expansive list of seven active digs. Azekah, a city of the ancient kingdom of Judah that features prominently in the Bible — both as a main border city and the fortification which towers above the Ellah valley — is the site of the legendary battle...
